As a general rule, who prefers to prewash their fabrics and who doesn't?
Because the majority of quality fabric manufacturers use much better dying methods these days, I feel very safe not prewashing. However, when in doubt I will test a small piece of a fabric before using it.
Curious to know what you all think.

As a rule, I don't prewash my fabric except for red. I always wash reds and any hand dye fabric. Lately, because I've been trying to use up my stash, and the material has been stored in my mother's cellar, I have been prewashing.
I don't prewash mine either. I like to work with them crisp and stiff. Just my preference.
I don't prewash. I can't stand all the raveled edges. I just wash after sewing it all together. The other factor..I normally am too excited about getting started to wait for it to go thru the washer and dryer.
I don't worry about it either way. But I do tend to make the first wash with either Shout color catchers or Retayne.
Most of the time I don't prewash my fabrics. I do though with red. I also like the crispness, that you have when you just start sewing! Great question Iva.
Blessings ladies
I don't prewash either. I'm with Becky on the raveling thing. Also the cripsness, Tonya. Hmm. I wonder if anyone prewashes. (besides red)
I have washed some of my red fabrics but I don't like the raveling, for the most part I like working with unwashed fabric. Haven't had any trouble yet-( I forgot that I made my daughter a CARS quilt and never prewashed and it still looks good and it had alot of red.)
Good question!
Oh My Goodness Marie! I thought I was the only mom whose DAUGHTER loves Cars!! I laughed when I read your post!!
