Gayly's Blocks

I went through all the envelopes today as I was packing up the sewing room (well... working on packing it up:) and thought I would post who's blocks I have received. They look more awesome in person that on the blog. I am really excited about this quilt:)

I have blocks from Marie, Carmen, Melissa, Jenny, Tonya and Patty. I know several others posted their blocks, they just haven't arrived late and a couple people mentioned theirs would be late which is ok:) I just thought I would let you know who I have:)

Blessings,
Gayly

You Choose Iva

Here are the two blocks for this month, let me know which one you want and I'll get it in the mail some time this week. You said you liked color, I hope these live up to your expectations.  This was a fun block to make, I just sewed and whacked. I must say that I've looked forward to the first of every month this year.
Happy sewing. :^)

Wonky Block

This took some getting used to. Unlike my sister, Melissa, I am a girl that likes her patterns and exact measurements. I guess it is good for me to just wing it from time to time. Hope you like the fabrics!

The Color of Spring (and maybe some Summer too)

To answer Becky’s question about color, I borrowed some swatches from Heather Bailey and Jenean Morrison to use as examples.

And to answer her second question:  I l.o.v.e. color!  With red, yellow, lavender, green, and melon among my top favorites.

However, having recently participated in a red/aqua block swap, where I  had to make 25 blocks in these colors, I think I’m over that combination.

Hope this helps.

How's this Iva?

This is my first wonky block. I admit, I had trouble at first and then caught on finally. I hope you like the colors. I thought these represent spring pretty well. I was in between projects and didn't have anything on the sewing table so I thought I'd go ahead and knock this out.

February’s Block

I’ve waffled back and forth on a couple of blocks and contemplated another two or three.  But in the end I’ve decided to go with my original choice…  Wonky Log Cabin.

There are several variations a person could choose from, and you can find tutorials for some of them
here, here, here, and here.

My particular favorite from that list is the wonky squares-in-squares block, such as the one
in the third picture here
(by the way, I adore the prints and color combinations in that block – hint, hint ;).

But please feel free to be creative and choose the Wonky Log Cabin style that appeals to you.

Now, I don’t know about you gals, but I am very ready for spring.  So let’s make our blocks in happy spring-time colors.
My only a stipulations are:
no pastels, no calicoes, and no solids.

My fabric tastes run along the same lines as those
that Christy requested:
Anna Maria Horner, Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, plus Dena Designs, Jenean Morrison, and such.
You don’t have to purchase fabrics by these particular designers, just use them as examples when making your selections.

Your finished block should measure 12-1/2” square.  My plan is to add a 3-1/2” white-on-white frame to each block so that it finishes 15-1/2”.

This is an easy peasy block, so just have fun with it
and let your creative juices flow.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

And I want you to know up front how truly, truly grateful I am to each of you for the time and effort and creativity that you will be putting into the block you make for me!!
Time is such a precious commodity and not to be taken for granted, so you can count on your accomplishment to be treasured and oh so greatly appreciated.

Happy creating :-)

A Red Star...of Sorts

Christy found me some great blocks for this project, however, someone beat me to the more "starlike" block. So instead I did "Crown of Thorns". I do you hope you like it! I already had red solid fabric so that is the 2nd color I choose to use. Sorry, for sneaking this in "just under the wire"! And I must say for fabric that was bought accidently, I think you are going to end up with a beautiful quilt! All the different blocks really do look like stained glass. Just lovely!
(oh, and there is a story behind this block, so don't be confused if the one you get in the mail doesn't look exactly the same...Christy helped me with this block and after about 2-3 hours we were finally done! (She helped with some of the cutting & layout, the sewing was all me. Well, when we were finished and compared it to her's ....*drumroll* ....mine was considerably smaller! Yep, mine only measures 13"x13". Apparently, I like to use 3/8" seam allowances. Not to worry though, Christy is going to help me redo it next week & monitor my seams. *Sigh* I do apologize for the extra delay. Just put it towards "a beginning quilter's mistake". )
