A Red Star...of Sorts

Christy found me some great blocks for this project, however, someone beat me to the more "starlike" block. So instead I did "Crown of Thorns". I do you hope you like it! I already had red solid fabric so that is the 2nd color I choose to use. Sorry, for sneaking this in "just under the wire"! And I must say for fabric that was bought accidently, I think you are going to end up with a beautiful quilt! All the different blocks really do look like stained glass. Just lovely!
(oh, and there is a story behind this block, so don't be confused if the one you get in the mail doesn't look exactly the same...Christy helped me with this block and after about 2-3 hours we were finally done! (She helped with some of the cutting & layout, the sewing was all me. Well, when we were finished and compared it to her's ....*drumroll* ....mine was considerably smaller! Yep, mine only measures 13"x13". Apparently, I like to use 3/8" seam allowances. Not to worry though, Christy is going to help me redo it next week & monitor my seams. *Sigh* I do apologize for the extra delay. Just put it towards "a beginning quilter's mistake". )

Gayly's Block

Hi everyone, Here is another block for Gayly. I used the pattern from the Quilter's cache website. I know the fabric was an oops but I think your quilt is going to be awesome. It reminds me of a rainbow!

I will get this in the mail tomorrow-

Take care,

Marie

Almost Ready, Set, Go

Today my mom brought over the vintage sheet for my backing and all that stuff. I just read on Red Pepper Quilts the easiest way to baste it all! Two words: Masking Tape and Safety Pins. (Isn't that actually 4 words?) Anywho, now I just need to get myself some nice cotton batting (or wadding for those of us who are Brits at heart!) and I'll be on my way!

January's got just 1 week left...Iva, are you making plans yet??

Have a great week everybody!

You know, Gayly, this really is a fascinating fabric; and I am looking forward to seeing how your quilt turns out.  Your young friend is sure to love it.

Happy quilting!

Gayly's Block

Here's my block! It's called "State of Oregon". We're about an hour north of Oregon so I thought it would be okay to use their block!

Missouri Puzzle

Hi everyone! Gayly, here is your block. I found this on the website you directed us to. It is called Missouri Puzzle and is 15 1/2 inches square.

I made the same block for me except I had to add some flowery fabric for me! I laughed when I read Linda's blog the other day. She says it's a stretch for her to use colorful fabrics and more than two colors (one white.) I don't think I've ever used two colors in a whole quilt, so you all who make me use just two are stretching me! I used every last scrap of what you sent, Gayly. I know it was a mistake that you ordered it, but it actually looks like something I would pick! Anyway, here are my four blocks:

It's going to be beautiful!

My wild star

Hi Ladies.
Well, Gayly, here is your star.  I am sure you can tell I did not use a pattern on Quilter's Cache and I hope that is ok with you...please let me know if it is not...I have lots of fabric leftover to do another block!  I just did this liberated star block for my other bee and have fallen in love with this block!  It measures 15.5.

Recognize what is on the design wall today?

H helped me to put the little squares up there. I just need to sew it together now and then add some more borders to make it big enough.
Then I am going to make it reversible by backing it with my red, black, and white quilt top (which only exists as a pile of fabric right now).
Working on this makes me feel the love all over again. Thank you so much for these squares! This group has meant so much to me!

Star of Hope for Gayly

Here is my square. Called Star of Hope. It is not perfect. I had trouble with measuring and marking for some reason. I made mine out of a different print...because it reminds me of sun setting or rising in the clouds. And of course, hope is my favorite word right now so I got excited to see one with the word hope in it. I hope it is usable and isn't too off.

A Cross

I have to be honest. This is not a fabric I probably would have ever bought, but I absolutely love the finished product. It reminds me of stained glass. I hope you like it.

Which One Gayly?

Here's my January Block. I made two like I have been for this swap. One for  you and one for me. But this time there's a twist, I made two blocks the same. They are called Comet, but it isn't a star block, I just liked it. I chose two color ways and wasn't thrilled with how the purple one came out, so I took it apart and started over again. This time I made a star block. So let me know which one you want Gayly and I send it out on Monday, and keep the other one.

The January Block

Ok, I think you all received my CRAZY fabric in the mail. If not, drop me an email and I'll send you some! BTW, you are free to keep what is left from the block... I still have 10 yards of it! I guess that is what happens when you make mistakes ordering online:)

I actually think you guys are going to make it into something unique and awesome, I have faith in you and can't wait to see your creations!

The first thing you need to do is pick on of the colors in the fabric and get a solid coordinate. I'd like the blocks to be 2 fabric blocks only. Then pick a 15" block- pattern of your choice. I do really like different types of star blocks but I am open to anything you choose! (finished- 15 1/2 inch unfinished)- I know that is huge but I'm trying to use up the fabric and I actually think it will turn out pretty cool! There are several great patterns here: http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeD.html

Happy Sewing! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Happy New Year!
Blessings,
Gayly
