(It’s All About) Me

What is your full name (maiden also)? Iva Marie Lane McAdams

What is your age? 53 (gasp!! cough, cough… oh.my.gosh. where did the time go??!!!!)

Where were you born and raised? Shawnee, Oklahoma

When did you meet your husband? About 20 years ago when he came to the company where I worked to do an environmental audit.  I thought he was arrogant and full of himself.  It took him nearly 10 years to convince me he was really a pretty decent guy :D

How many children do you have? 1 daughter, 2 sons, and 1 son my hubby is sweet enough to share with me

How many out of the house? All of them….

How many in the house? I really dislike being an empty nester!!!!

How many grandchildren, if you have any? 3, two boys and 1 girl

Do you do the cooking or does your husband? I do, and for the most part enjoy it.  However, Jerry is an excellent cook and I am always happy to let him make me a meal any time he wants.

Do you live in the city or in the country (farm)? In the ‘burbs.

If you could live anywhere other then where you live where would it be? My home state of Oklahoma, or North Carolina or Italy (both because they are SO beautiful).

Do you dye your hair? Absolutely!  It’s fun, but when my hair does completely gray, or silver, or whatever it’s going to do, I’ll let it go natural.

What is your favorite past time? Sewing, quilting, reading, or exploring new places.

What is your favorite color or color combinations? pink, red, yellow, green, pastel orange, lilac, black…. hmm – I love color!

What kind of crafting do you like to do? sewing, quilting, and knitting (still learning)

What is a day like for you? Lately, my days are quite busy.  I start out by making breakfast for my sweetie; volunteer for two local organizations, so divide my time between them; Bible study has started up again, so there is studying and homework to do; then I have to fit in making dinner and a little (oh so little) housework and downtime.

If you could have something made for you what would it be? It would most definitely be the last house I plan to move into (my dream home).  That’s a few years down the road though, so I’ll continue to dream.

What is your favorite season? Why? Spring and Fall. I love the feel and scents of renewal, warmth and passionate storms that Spring brings, the crisp morning air and fragrances of Fall as well as a feeling of respite and settling in.  Plus, the abundance of beauty that comes with both seasons.

What was the best Christmas gift you have ever received? My children, and grandchildren.  They didn’t come on Christmas, but they are my greatest treasures and I am thankful daily for those precious gifts.

Do you have some story that would make us all laugh? We could call this my most humiliating moment – and I hope no one is offended….. My husband and I were in the local Bed, Bath and Beyond shopping for various items.  One of his favorite sections of the store is kitchenware.  We were checking out the pans and gadgets and then came upon the knives.  The really good ones that are locked in a glass case and a store clerk has to open it up for you.  We found someone to unlock the case because Jerry wanted a nice boning knife for slicing meats, de-boning chicken, that sort of thing.  Well, he found two that he liked and the store clerk patiently and sweetly waited as he debated which one would be the best choice.  Finally he turned to me and asked my opinion and without thinking I said, “Well, sweetie, I’ll leave that decision up to you because you’re the boner in the house.”  Both the store clerk and my husband were straining to keep a straight face, and as the realization of what I said struck me, I mumbled something about needing some pillowcases and left the two of them there with Jerry clearing his throat and saying, “Okay. Well.  I’ll take this one.”

When did you meet your husband? Anchorage, Alaska 37 years ago.

How many children do you have? 5 here on earth 2 in heaven

How many out of the house? 3 sons

How many grandchildren, if you have any? 9, 6 boys and 3 girls

Do you do the cooking or does your husband? I do, unless he does the grill

Do you live in the city or in the country (farm)? On a farm

If you could live anywhere other then where you live where would it be? Back in Juneau, Alaska

Do you dye your hair? You don't have to answer this. Hehe No, I earned every grey hair.

What is your favorite past time? Stitching on something outside in one of my old fashioned lawn chairs.

What is your favorite color or color combinations? Cranberry

What kind of crafting do you like to do? Anything, really love it all.

What is a day like for you? I start my day with the Lord. During the school year I teach our daughters. In the summer I would be gardening.

If you could have something made for you what would it be? I would have windows put in my little barn that we had built for our business years ago. It was used as a storage place for the different parts of our patterns. We would do 5000 at a time. Now it will be used as a Refuge Cabin. Needs windows!

What is your favorite season? Why? Spring and Fall. Because it is not so hot. I love to entertain outside.

What was the best Christmas gift you have ever received? I know this is silly, but when Phil and I were first married and the boys were little he bought me this stained glass window. The boys all went with him when he went to buy it. They didn't know how to wrap it ,so they had me close my eyes and walked in with it. I can still see them now. Wonderful memory! They were so small then. Sad.

Do you have some story that would make us all laugh? Well one that I remember was when my husband and I were at International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas. I had just bought those nylons that hold up by themselves with elastic at the top. I don't even know if they still make them now. Anyway. I didn't know that they were suppose to only go above the knee. I must of bought the biggest size and I am not that big. Anyway. I put them clear up to my thigh (I didn't know). Well the first costumer came. It was a man. My catalogs were in a basket on the floor, so I went to bend down to get one and you guessed it. Now I had a jumper on that was just below my knees. When I started to get up I felt the nylon start to roll down my thigh. I just panicked! I thought it was going to shoot down to my ankles. It stopped at the top of my knee. After he left I went to the bathroom and pulled them back up. Yes, all the way to the top of my thigh again. Well, it did it again. The only thing I thought I could do was to go to the fabric company that we were with and get some double face tape, that I had bought for them at Walmart the day before. Yep, I taped those hose to my leg at the thigh. Now, I will tell you, if it was today I would of thrown them away and gone bare legged, but no not me, when I was so fashion conscious. Okay don't ever put doubled face tape on any part of your body. That night at the hotel when I took my hose off, the tape took a whole bunch of layers of skin. It hurt and burned so bad. What was I thinking? I guess I wasn't.

Just A Little Survey....

As a general rule, who prefers to prewash their fabrics and who doesn't?

Because the majority of quality fabric manufacturers use much better dying methods these days, I feel very safe not prewashing. However, when in doubt I will test a small piece of a fabric before using it.

Curious to know what you all think.

Waiting for Fabric

The only stash I have is a yarn stash (well, besides the junk the kids have stashed in their closets...) anywho, can't wait 'til the UPS truck brings me my package from Fabric.com! I went to my local fabric store (is that considered a LFS? A Local Yarn Shop is an LYS) and they didn't have anything I liked so I hunkered down online with a steamy latte and found EXACTLY what I wanted. (and a whole lot more of course!) I will post photos as soon as the package arrives...the tracking page says Thursday! Woot Woot!

One for You and One for Me

Well, my colors are pretty much right on. I made two identical blocks except for the star points. Which one would you like, Becky? It makes no difference to me. Both have all their points and are 12 1/2 inches square. I sure had fun picking out the colors. Marie and I were talking on Saturday and decided that aqua is a hard color to define. It could be anything from light blue to gray blue to turquoise to light greenish. I definitely used the more light-blue, gray-blue colors. I hope that's okay. This square is slightly complicated and I would never make you all do it. But it was calling my name this morning and I thought it would go with the other stars. I hope you love it, Becky! You can click the picture to see it bigger and decide which one you like better.
